I am a second-year master's student at Illinois State University. This summer, I have the opportunity to work with ConnecTU! During my time on campus, I have been deeply involved with Alternative Breaks, an organization committed to addressing service and social justice issues both locally and globally by traveling to various communities during breaks to offer support, learn, educate, and advocate.
To incoming freshmen, here’s some advice for your first year: Embrace the community to feel at home and remember that feeling uncomfortable often means you're growing(most times). Join activities and explore your interests! Being away from home for the first time can be tough and unfamiliar, so seek out environments that provide positive energy, a safe space, and opportunities for personal development. These years will fly right past you, so soak it in.
