Get Involved with First-Gen Students

If you were a first-generation college student and are now looking to help other students who and tackling Tulane and college life, get involved with the Center for Academic Equity.

You can:

• Volunteer for move-in day
• Volunteer to speak at wellness symposiums, Equity Thursdays, etc.
• Brainstorm how your office or unit can support our First-Gen students
• Become a First-Gen mentor for one of our students

Proud TU Be First Mentoring Program

Proud to Be First brings together staff, faculty, and students who are first generation college to share experiences, welcome new first-generation students to campus, and support their success. We match  first-generation students with faculty and staff who have shared interests, career goals, and backgrounds As a mentor, you would:

  • Conduct biweekly check-ins: Mentors and mentees meet every two weeks during the first semester.
  • Attend receptions with your student: There is a welcome reception in September and  closing  celebration  in December. 

Applications for Proud TU Be First are not being accepteed at this time for mentors or mentees.

First Generation College Council

These members directly engage our first-gen students by participating in their orientation, engaging students through CAE programming and providing one-on-one mentorship
through the first-year transition to college. The council meets four times a year and provide feedback to the Center for Academic Equity.
